A Very Short Human Design Overview

Human Design is a system that shows you your unique energy blueprint – like a personal operating manual for your life. Your chart reveals your “Type” (how you’re designed to use your energy), your “Authority” (how you make correct decisions), and your “Definition” (the consistent traits you can rely on).

The chart has 9 energy centers connected by channels, and when 13 -15 celestial instances and planets activate each one of 64 specific “Gates” at your birth, they create your individual design. Each gate has 6 “Lines” that add nuance and detail – these come from the ancient I Ching and represent different ways the gate’s energy can express itself, like different flavors or approaches within the same theme.

Each day, as planets move through different gates and lines, they create “transits” – temporary energies that affect everyone. The key is learning to follow your Type’s strategy (like waiting to respond if you’re a Generator) and your Authority (like waiting for emotional clarity if you’re emotional) – this removes resistance and allows your true nature to flow.

History

Human Design was founded by Ra Uru Hu (born Alan Robert Krakower in Montreal, Canada) in 1987 . According to the system’s origin story, Krakower had a mystical experience while in Ibiza, Spain, during the 1987 supernova which he received information about Human Design over an eight-day period. This “revelation” became the foundation of the system.

Ra Uru Hu developed the system throughout the 1990s and early 2000s until his death in 2011. Since then, various teachers and practitioners have continued to develop and spread Human Design worldwide.

Human Design combines elements from Western astrology, the Chinese I Ching, the Kabbalah, the Hindu-Brahmin chakra system and Quantum physics.

The system creates a personal bodygraph based on your birth date, time, and location (similar to an astrological chart) for the right or CONSCIOUS self of your chart. A date calculated to be 88 days before birth, forms the left side, the UNCONSCIOUS self.

Human Design categorizes people into five main “types”:

• Manifestors or in Quantum Human Design the Initiators
• Generators or Alchemists
• Manifesting Generators or Time Benders
• Projectors or Orchestrators
• Reflectors or Calibrators

Each type has a recommended “strategy” for decision-making and interacting with the world:

• Manifestors are advised to “inform” before taking action
• Generators should “respond” rather than initiate
• Projectors should “wait for invitation” before offering guidance
• Reflectors should “wait a lunar cycle” before making major decisions

The other important parts of the system are:

• 9 energy centers (based on chakras-see above)
• 36 Channels (connecting the centers)
• 64 Gates (specific points of energy within the channels) each with 6 Lines
• 7 Authority types (recommended decision-making approaches)
• 12 Profiles (personality patterns)

And many more differentiations, like Tone, Colour and Base. It is a very complicated system.
