I worked hard on this. The printing output was especially hard for a saddle stitched booklet in Traveller Notebook and Half Letter/A5 size. Phew, but I finished it just in time.

Naveganças
Yesterday morning the 30th of June, I woke early, and a connection came to mind that I had never quite made before, even though both halves of it have lived in me for decades.
For 34 years I have been making my Books of the Days. Meine Tagesbücher. My navigations. I began them on the 5th of December, 1992, on my birthday, one concertina book for each day of one full year, and I have never set the concept aside. They have followed me across my whole life as an artist. I have accumulated more than 650 of them now, and I am still making them. They are my main oeuvre, the spine of a 40 year career. This April and May they travelled to FUNARTE in São Paulo and were shown as 32 folded objects on the floor that resembled the waves of the ocean of time we are all navigating.
This exhibition “Naveganças” was a very important one for me. I marked the rejuvenation of the concept. Since ongoing, these folded objects are who I am.
The epiphany I had this morning was the thread that ties them to Human Design and to astrology, the thread I had been holding from both ends without seeing the connection.
Naveganças means navigations. A voyage through space and time. For 34 years that is exactly what my work has been, a long contemplation of space and time, a daily passage marked by hand. And the word at the center of Human Design transits is the same word in a different language. A transit is a navigational travel through time and space. The planets in transit are navigating, moving through the 64 gates the way a vessel moves across a chart. My art and this practice are the same motion, named twice.

There is a second thread, and it ties to the first.
All those years, day after day, my own artistic Naveganças were quietly recording something. The lift and the weight of a day, the feeling well set against the feeling unwell, the returning shapes of a life. I was building, without calling it that, a pattern recognition system. My hands were tracking cycles long before my mind had the words. Through the work, and through years of very intense diary writing, I was reading my own rhythm by instinct.
Now my personal design gives me the proof of what in my art I already knew. The cycles are real. Human Design and the transits confirm, in their own precise language, the patterns my Books of the Days have been drawing for 34 years. The contemplation of space and time and the instinct for pattern, the two great currents of my work, meet here. They were always the same river.
The miracle that Human Design opens out, the gates and the channels, is carried and confirmed by the oldest navigation we know, the planets moving through the sky. Astrology shows the design in motion. The moment I felt that this morning, I understood that the transits are simply my Naveganças written in the heavens, a navigation through space and time, kept daily, the way I have kept mine.
