The Celestial Weather of August 2026
August descends. July closed with the Sun stepping through the door of retreat, and August opens on the other side of that door, in Gate 33, the gate Ra Uru Hu called Retreat and Karen Curry Parker names Retelling, high in the Throat. From there the Sun sinks step by step through the bodygraph. It drops to the G Center for Gate 7, Collaboration, then to the Ajna for Gate 4, Possibility, then down into the Sacral for two full gates, Gate 29, Devotion, and Gate 59, Sustainability, before coming to rest at the very end of the month in the Heart, in Gate 40, Restoration. Voice, then identity, then mind, then body, then heart. If July was a month of rising, from provocation all the way up to recognised leadership, August is the answering fall, a slow settling of everything that was said and led and begun into the places where it can actually live.
Jupiter makes this descent doubly meaningful, because it follows the Sun. Having spent July in Gate 31, The Leader, Jupiter crosses this month into Gate 33, Retelling, and walks it line by line, reaching Gate 7, Collaboration, as August ends. The expander travels the Sun’s own opening gates at a fraction of the speed, so the themes the Sun touches in the first eleven days stay lit all month. Whatever recognition July brought now wants to become story, and the story wants to become quiet, shared guidance.
Mercury, newly direct after last month’s long review, spends August in a hurry. In the first two weeks it retraces July’s whole solar arc in fast motion, through Gate 62, Preparation, Gate 56, Expansion, Gate 31, The Leader, and into Gate 33, Retelling. Then it settles in behind the Sun and shadows the August gates one by one, Collaboration, Possibility, Devotion, Sustainability, Restoration, before slipping on the very last day into Gate 64, Divine Transference, the head full of images waiting for meaning. The messenger recapitulates the month just lived and then keeps pace with this one, which is a fine description of a mind that has finished its audit and is ready to work again.
The deepest event of the month belongs to the Nodes. Around the middle of August the collective axis hands over, the North Node moving from Gate 55, Faith, to Gate 30, Passion, and the South Node from Gate 59, Sustainability, to Gate 29, Devotion. And here the sky arranges something quietly remarkable, because from August 17 to 28 the Sun and Earth walk exactly those four gates, the Sun through Devotion and Sustainability, the Earth through Passion and Faith. For nearly two weeks the daily weather and the generational current speak the same words. Meanwhile Neptune, retrograde, slips backward out of Gate 17, Anticipation, into Gate 25, Spirit, a change of era we will come to below, and Venus spends the month in a deep bodily river, Impact, Embodiment, Re-Alignment, Wisdom, Instinct, Endurance, while Mars moves through the artist’s gates of The Channel, Compassion, Perspective, and Recalibration.
For the creative professional, August favours completion and recommitment. Finish the telling of what July made. Then choose, with the whole body, what deserves your yes for the season ahead, tend the partnerships that sustain the work, and end the month resting on purpose, with the heart’s permission.

Week One: August 1 to 7
The Return from the Mountain
⊙ in Gate 33.2 → Gate 7.2 (August 1 to 7)
The month opens with the Sun already inside Gate 33, Retelling, in the Throat, the gate of retreat and the story that ripens in private. Karen Curry Parker’s counsel for this gate is precise: the mastery here is to translate personal experience into a narrative that empowers, to find the power inside the pain, and to wait for the right timing so the telling lands in the heart of another. The contraction is the same story told from victimhood. The Gene Keys spectrum runs from the Shadow of Forgetting through the Gift of Mindfulness to the Siddhi of Revelation, which is the whole gate in one line: what is not reflected on is forgotten, and what is held mindfully becomes revelation.
The Sun walks the upper lines of the gate this week, and they read like a course in how to return from retreat. On the first, the line of Surrender, with Jupiter exalted there, acceptance that stepping back was never defeat. Then Spirit, then Dignity, where Pluto is exalted and the withdrawal keeps its self-respect. On August 4 comes the line Ra called Timing, Pluto exalted and Jupiter in detriment, and this line is the secret of the whole gate: retreat is only as good as the moment chosen for the return. The gate closes on the sixth line, Disassociation, the final letting go of what does not need to come back down the mountain with you. The Earth all week holds Gate 19, Attunement, in the Root, walking its own lines of Service, Dedication, and Sacrifice, so the quiet work above is grounded by a felt sense of what the people around you actually need.
On August 6 the Sun leaves the Throat and enters the G Center, crossing into Gate 7, Collaboration, the gate Ra called the Role of the Self and whose I Ching root is The Army. Its first line, with Venus exalted, is the Authoritarian, and its second the Democrat, two of the six styles of guidance this gate carries. The Earth swings opposite into Gate 13, Narrative, the listener who keeps the collective memory. Leadership and witness now share the axis: one steers, the other keeps the log.
Venus begins the month in Gate 6, Impact, and on August 5 enters Gate 46, Embodiment, the gate of the love of the body, where she is very much at home. Mars spends the whole week in Gate 12, The Channel, the artist’s gate of the Throat that speaks only when the mood is true. Mercury, for its part, moves through Gate 62, Preparation, naming and ordering, and reaches Gate 56, Expansion, by week’s end, ready to tell.

Week Two: August 8 to 14
The Quiet Hand on the Tiller
⊙ in Gate 7.3 → Gate 4.4 (August 8 to 14)
The Sun spends the first half of the week completing Gate 7, Collaboration, and its upper lines are a study in the forms of guidance: the Anarchist, the Abdicator who knows when to hand the role to another, the General, Venus exalted, whose authority is asked for in a crisis rather than seized, and the Administrator, Mercury exalted, who serves the whole through competence rather than charisma. Karen Curry Parker’s reading of this gate is one of the most useful teachings in the system for anyone whose work touches other people: the power here comes from supporting and influencing direction, and the chief of staff is often more powerful than the president. The contraction is the fight to be seen as the leader at the cost of the work itself. The Gene Keys arc runs from Division through Guidance to Virtue. Held against last month, the lesson is gentle and pointed at once. July taught leadership by recognition, in Gate 31. August refines it into influence without the figurehead’s chair. The Earth in Gate 13, Narrative, holds the other side: whoever guides needs a witness, and the deepest guidance often sounds like listening.
On August 12 the Sun rises into the Ajna and enters Gate 4, Possibility, whose I Ching name, Youthful Folly, keeps the gate honest. This is the mind’s gate of answers, and its answers arrive as possibilities rather than certainties. Karen Curry Parker’s mastery for this gate is to treat the idea as a seed for the imagination, letting it calibrate the heart and attract what matches it, and her caution is exact: the contraction is the pressure to share or implement the idea before it has had time to seed. The Gene Keys spectrum runs from Intolerance through Understanding to Forgiveness, the mind softening from needing to be right into simply understanding. The Sun’s path through the gate this week touches the lines of Pleasure and, around August 14, the line Ra named the Liar, Sun exalted and Saturn in detriment, which sounds harsher than it is: it marks the mind’s talent for the plausible answer, and the responsibility that comes with it. The Earth grounds all of this in Gate 49, The Catalyst, the gate of principles and revolution, whose Gene Keys arc moves from Reaction through Revolution to Rebirth. Answers, this pairing says, are never neutral: they rest on principles, and they change things.
Mercury races through Gate 31, The Leader, and into Gate 33, Retelling, repeating July’s ending in miniature. Venus enters Gate 18, Re-Alignment, on August 11, the gate of correction done for love of the pattern rather than fault-finding. Mars moves into Gate 15, Compassion, the gate of rhythm and the wide human range.
Creative Invitation: Choose one open question in your work and carry it all week without answering it. Collect possibilities the way you would collect shells, without needing any one of them to be the answer. Let the idea seed. The implementation belongs to a later month.

Week Three: August 15 to 21
The Deep Yes
⊙ in Gate 4.5 → Gate 29.5 (August 15 to 21)
The week opens with the Sun finishing Gate 4, through the line of Seduction, Jupiter exalted, the charm of the answer that sounds right, and the line of Excess, Mercury exalted, the mind running past its own usefulness. Both are timely warnings, because on August 17 the whole month changes register. The Sun leaves the mind and plunges into the Sacral, into Gate 29, the gate Ra called The Abysmal, after its I Ching root, and Karen Curry Parker names Devotion. This is the gate of the deep yes, the sacral commitment that gives itself wholly without knowing where the road leads.
The Gene Keys spectrum tells the whole story of this gate in three words: Half-Heartedness, Commitment, Devotion. And Karen Curry Parker’s counsel could not be more practical. The mastery is to commit to the right thing, knowing that your perseverance shows the world what is possible. The contraction is to over-commit, to say yes because you can rather than because you want to, to fail to know when enough is enough, and to burn out for it. The Sun’s lines this week trace exactly that razor’s edge. It opens in the Draftee, Mars exalted, the one who answers the call. It moves through Assessment and Evaluation, the honest weighing of what a yes will cost. On August 20 it reaches Directness, Saturn exalted, the plain, unhedged yes. And on August 21 it arrives at the line Ra named Overreach, Sun exalted but Earth in detriment, the peril of promising past your capacity.
The Earth holds the other pole of the axis all week, in Gate 30, Passion, in the emotional Solar Plexus, and its lines are almost a commentary on the Sun’s: Composure, Pragmatism, Resignation, Burnout, Irony. Your yes this week is fuelled by feeling, and feeling burns. The pairing of Devotion above and Passion below asks for a paced fire, the kind that cooks rather than consumes. It is worth noticing that the sky sends help: on August 17, the same day the Sun enters Devotion, Mars enters Gate 52, Perspective, the mountain of stillness, and sits there for the rest of the week. The body’s drive turns quiet and watchful exactly when the sacral heat rises. Venus, meanwhile, has entered Gate 48, Wisdom, the deep well of the Spleen, on August 16, and Mercury trails the Sun through Collaboration into Possibility.
Creative Invitation: Before any yes this week, ask whether you would still say yes a year into the commitment. Then commit to one thing wholly and decline three things kindly. A devotion is measured by what it is willing not to do.

Week Four: August 22 to 31
The Bond, Then the Hearth
⊙ in Gate 29.6 → Gate 40.3 (August 22 to 31)
The Sun closes Gate 29 on August 22 in its sixth line, Confusion, the honest fog at the end of every deep commitment, and on August 23 crosses into Gate 59, Sustainability, still in the Sacral. Ra’s I Ching root for this gate is Dispersion, the dissolving of barriers, and the Gene Keys arc runs from Dishonesty through Intimacy to Transparency. This is the gate that breaks down the walls between people so that something living can grow, a work, a partnership, a shared world. Karen Curry Parker’s mastery here is to trust in sufficiency, to know that abundance is fulfilled in sharing, and to craft partnerships that sustain both sides. Her contraction names the fear beneath most bad contracts: the sense of lack that makes us agree to the unsustainable. The Sun’s lines walk from Shyness through Openness to the warm fourth line Ra called Brotherhood and Sisterhood, Venus exalted, the bond of equals, before the gate’s more charged closing lines.
And here August touches its deepest layer. The Earth opposite holds Gate 55, Faith, and mid-month the Nodes themselves have handed over, the North Node moving from Faith to Gate 30, Passion, the South Node from Sustainability to Gate 29, Devotion. From August 17 to 28 the Sun and Earth have walked precisely these four gates, the outgoing axis and the incoming one. The personal weather has been rehearsing the generational turn: a collective season asking us to move from securing what sustains us toward what we are devoted to and passionate about. If your agreements, your partnerships, and your commitments have felt unusually lit these two weeks, this is why.
Then, on August 29, the Sun makes its final descent of the month, into the Heart, into Gate 40, the gate Ra called Deliverance after its I Ching root and Karen Curry Parker names Restoration. Its Gene Keys spectrum runs from Exhaustion through Resolve to Divine Will, and its counsel completes the month’s arc perfectly. The mastery of this gate is the retreat that replenishes, the willingness to step back and refill so that you return to your people with more to give. The contraction is martyrdom, the over-giving that proves value by depletion. The Sun’s three closing lines are Recuperation, Resoluteness, and Humility, Pluto exalted, and the Earth grounds them in Gate 37, Peace, the gate of the family and the hearth, walking the lines of the Mother and Father, Responsibility, and Evenhandedness. A month that began with the return from retreat ends by scheduling the next one. Work and rest, this axis says, are parts of the same love.
The other planets close the month in kind. Venus enters Gate 57, Instinct, on August 23, the clearest ear in the bodygraph, and Gate 32, Endurance, on August 29. Mars enters Gate 39, Recalibration, on August 26, and July’s opening provocation returns, now carried by the body rather than the Sun, a low, useful agitation for the autumn. And Mercury, having followed the Sun through Devotion, Sustainability, and Restoration, slips on August 31 into Gate 64, Divine Transference, the head full of images that have not yet found their meaning. September will sort them.
Creative Invitation: End the month by resting on purpose, as an act of craft rather than collapse. And take one honest hour with your agreements: name which partnerships sustain you and which quietly drain you. Renew the first kind. Renegotiate the second, from sufficiency rather than fear.

The Slow-Moving Planets: Generational Currents
While the Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars shape the weather of our days and weeks, the outer planets move the deep tides beneath.
Jupiter in Gates 31, 33, and 7, Throat and G Center. Jupiter spends August following the Sun’s own path, leaving Gate 31, The Leader, crossing Gate 33, Retelling, line by line, and arriving at Gate 7, Collaboration, as the month ends. The expander is turning July’s recognition into story and the story into shared guidance, and it will keep these themes lit long after the Sun has moved on. Whatever you are asked to lead this season, Jupiter suggests telling it and guiding it rather than fronting it.
Saturn in Gate 21, Heart Center. Saturn continues retrograde in Gate 21, Self-Regulation, moving from the sixth line to the fifth. The long inward audit of control that began in late July continues: what in your creative economy truly needs your grip, and what runs better trusted to others. Real authority, Saturn keeps saying, is the earned right to direct, and it is proven by what you can release.
Uranus in Gate 20, Throat Center. Uranus holds in the sixth line of Gate 20, Patience, the gate of the present moment. The flash of true, unplanned expression stays available all month, most of all in the weeks when the Sun is deep in the body and the Throat is otherwise quiet.
Neptune in Gates 17 and 25, Ajna and G Center. This is the quiet headline of the month. Neptune, retrograde, backs out of Gate 17, Anticipation, where it has been dissolving the hard edges of opinion, and re-enters Gate 25, Spirit, the gate of innocence and universal love in the G Center. An outer planet spends years in a gate, so a change of gate is a change of era. The dissolving fog leaves the mind’s opinions and settles into the heart of identity itself, softening the boundary between the artist and the love that moves through the work. Expect this to be a long story, and expect its first chapters to feel like a loosening of who you thought you had to be.
Pluto in Gate 41, Root Center. Pluto continues retrograde in Gate 41, Imagination, moving from the third line to the second, still working its slow, irreversible transformation of the start codon, the hunger and fantasy that begin every new cycle of experience.
The Nodes, from Faith and Sustainability to Passion and Devotion. Around mid-August the North Node leaves Gate 55, Faith, for Gate 30, Passion, and the South Node leaves Gate 59, Sustainability, for Gate 29, Devotion. The collective compass swings from the axis of emotional abundance and sustainable bonds to the axis of feeling and commitment. The coming season asks less “what will sustain us” and more “what are we devoted to, and what sets us alight.”
Chiron in Gate 3, Sacral. Chiron holds in the fourth line of Gate 3, Innovation, tending the tender, unglamorous work of bringing order out of the chaos of the truly new.

Closing Reflections
August is a descent, and a homecoming. The month starts at the Throat with a story ripened in retreat, and then it hands the year’s work downward, to the self that guides in Gate 7, the mind that seeds in Gate 4, the body that commits in Gate 29 and bonds in Gate 59, and finally the heart that rests in Gate 40. Read as one gesture, August teaches that the creative life is sustained below the neck. The telling matters, the leading matters, the idea matters, and all of them stand or fall on the body’s deep yes and the heart’s willingness to rest.
The month’s quietest teaching may be its most durable. For twelve days the Sun and Earth walk the very gates where the collective axis is turning, from sustainability to devotion, from faith to passion. What you commit to this August, in other words, is not a private matter. It joins a larger turning. Choose the commitments you would be proud to have rehearsed on behalf of everyone.
If you carry one thing out of August, let it be this: give your whole yes or your kind no, and let rest count as part of the work.

Notes for the Curious Reader
The Nodes. The lunar Nodes are the two points where the Moon’s orbit crosses the path of the Sun, and in Human Design they describe the direction of the collective story, the environment and themes a whole season of humanity moves through. They travel backward through the wheel and change gates only every few months, so a nodal gate change marks a genuine turn of the collective road. When the Sun and Earth transit the same gates the Nodes occupy, as they do in the second half of this August, the daily weather and the generational current briefly speak in the same words.
Exalted and in detriment. In Ra Uru Hu’s Rave I’Ching, every one of the 384 lines carries a planetary fixing: one planet whose nature expresses the line at its best, called exalted, and often one that struggles there, called in detriment. When a line’s reading names a planet, as with Jupiter exalted in the line of Surrender, it points to the flavour of the line’s highest and lowest expression. The transiting planets do not need to be in that line for the fixing to inform its meaning.
A planet changing gates. The inner planets cross a gate in days, but an outer planet like Neptune spends years in a single gate, so its change of gate, like this month’s slide from Gate 17 back into Gate 25, opens a chapter that will colour several years. Because Neptune is retrograde, it re-enters the old gate from above, revisiting ground it first crossed on the way forward.
